Oh dear
It's almost May!
I'm the worst at blogging. I tried to ask Max to help me out, but all he does it look at jerky treats online.
So far this year has been a whirlwind of things. Mostly good, some sad, and a lot in between.
Two weeks ago we had to say good-bye to one of our kitty friends - Lil'Joe. We adopted him 6 years ago, and he was little old man then. We know we gave him a good senior retirement home, but his passing was still sad.
RIP Lil' Joe
In happy pet news, we have been able to foster 2 dogs through area rescue Hopes Haven, and both have been adopted!
In other news, Consign Couture turned one last Thursday. Happy Birthday!
Left to right - me, Tamara of Consign Couture and Nicole of Shop Adorn.
Speaking of Shop Adorn, they are back in business! Official party is this Friday night!

And yes - that is a PDX Neat Sheet link I posted. There seems to be new activity on the page. Comment and like them in Facebook to show your support!
This Saturday is my teaching debut for the American Sewing Guild - Columbia River Chapter. I'm pleased to say my class is full! I'm a tad on the nervous side, but I know it will be fun! Or I'll scare all the students with how excited I am about sewing knits! Here's the link to the listing and my mug on their page.

I've also been working on fundraising for the animal shelter in my hometown. Newberg Animal Shelter. I volunteer with the group Newberg Animal Shelter Friends an all volunteer 501(c)3 dedicated to building a new shelter. Construction has begun on the new shelter, but there are not enough funds as of to date to finish building the kennels to move the animals. This Friday and Saturday is one of the largest fundraisers - The Mega Yard Sale. I just dropped off an entire car load of goodies this morning. Please go if you are in the area. I can guarantee there are a few ceramic friends stowed away long with a giant velvet painting. I've got another event or two up my sleeve for the rest of the year. One inovlves wine, and the other something along the lines of this:

Please "like" their Facebook page: Newberg Animal Shelter Friends.
Weeeeeeeeeee construction happening!!!
Phew. I'm going to keep updating this blog as much as I can. Not all pretty dresses, all the time. (well wait in my brains yes!), but I like to share things that are going on with my life.

Bowlful of Heart 2011- HUGE success!
I have to say THANK YOU to every single person involved in this drive. I was shocked and amazed at how well it went!
Together we all collected 936lbs of pet food! (not to mention the Critter Cabana left the bin out in Newberg through the end of the month and it was full again!!)
Here are some photos and a dorky video from the drive. I took my car, the Beast Master, out for delivery on December 23rd.
Can't wait for the drive in 2012, and still in a little bit of awe at how generous people were.
Picking up at Salty's Cat and Dog Shop.
Here's the loot coming from Portland.
And here's after loading up from Newberg!
The Beast Master may have hit low-rider status.

Bowlful of Heart - Pet Food Drive
This holiday season, I'm proud to be on the sponsors for Bowlful of Heart.
The goal is to blow last year's pet food drive out of the water. If you would like to donate, and cannot make it to one of the drop locations please let me know. Myself or another person would be happy to pick up your donation.

Spring/Summer 2011
For the photoshoot of this collection, I wanted to do something different. Over the years I have been involved in volunteering in several different capacities with local shelter organizations. My own pets are very near and dear to me, and they have all come from various rescue situations. I cannot imagine my daily life without them.
Volunteering with shelters can be a very eye opening experience. Had my beloved Pet Assisted Therapy cat Muku (now in kitty heaven) not escaped my house 10 years ago, I may never have had to check area shelters for him. For me personally it was extremely difficult to go in and see so many animals there. First I got upset, and then I got mad about it, and made the choice to help make a difference. The ASPCA (link: http://www.aspca.org/about-us/ faq/pet-statistics.aspx) reports that between 5 and 7 million companion animals enter into shelters each year in the United States. Less than half are lucky enough to make it back out.
One of my personal goals this year is to get more involved with a shelter. I have selected the small one in my hometown of Newberg, Oregon. It's nothing snazzy, and frankly they could use your help. They are currently working hard to find funding and raise enough money to build an adequate building for the needs of the city and the pets. If you are so inclined to send a little help their way, I would love to send you a Clair tote bag. Donate here http://www. newberganimalshelterfriends. org/
Hope you enjoy the collection. It was one of the most fun photoshoots I have ever done. Huge thank you to my lovely model Cheryl and all the pets, Plume for the jewels, and of course the lady who make all the pretty things you see possible Sarah Giffrow.

2011 - Do more good.
Happy New Year!

(approximately 23 days late)
2010 was a great year for so many different reasons. It really got me thinking about life, and how many good things I have. From all the fun things I get to do every day, to all the wonderful people I have around me, and the rad city I live in - Portland. This has inspired me to spread the good, and do more good things for people around me.
This actually started in November around the holiday season. I did not get gifts for anyone. Instead I did good things on behalf of others.
Adopting foster 4 kids in need for the holidays, and having some friends adopt some as well.
Rounding up food and supplies for my hometown shelter - Newberg Animal Shelter. With the help of some good friends, I was able to collect over 200lbs of pet food and shelter supplies!

I am also doing some fund raising volunteer work here in 2011. They are currently trying to build a new shelter to accommodate the growing population of Newberg and Yamhill County. You can donate here - Newberg Animal Shelter Friends or at least be BFF's with them on Facebook to keep up on fun events. Maybe you can help too?
The latest thing was the Bra Drive. Melanie had the idea to gather the bras, and Union Rose hosted our collection bin. Again with the help of good friends, and some great customers, we were able to gather 194 bras! That's 37lbs of bra. Our goal was a 100, and we pretty much blew that out of the water.

So if you have helped with any of those things - THANK YOU. Even a single bra made a difference. The things weren't hard for me to do, just had or helped with an idea and spread the word. I feel extremely fortunate to know so many wonderful people and have a good network both socially and professionally. I think the best part was the mass amount of each made a huge difference to the recipients.
Next month I'm doing something that frankly scares the crap out of me. The Polar Plunge - a fundraiser for the Special Olympics. This is the 3rd year one of my oldest friends Jenny is plunging into the frigid Columbia in February, under the name Team Iceholes. The first year I cheered her on, the second year I pussed out, this year I am doing it. (though this maybe my 1st and last year getting in the water) Our team fund raising goal is $1000. We're almost halfway there.
All that being said, I encourage you to do something good this year. Help out with Meals on Wheels, take a bag of pet food to a animal shelter, grab an extra box of tampons at Costco for a homeless shelter , donate some of your time to work at a charity (I love helping out with the FCCO spay and neuter clinics). Even if it is as simple as cleaning your closet or pantry and taking excess to a charity that helps those in need - it helps. Happy New Year!
