Spring/Summer 2011

For the photoshoot of this collection, I wanted to do something different. Over the years I have been involved in volunteering in several different capacities with local shelter organizations. My own pets are very near and dear to me, and they have all come from various rescue situations. I cannot imagine my daily life without them.

Volunteering with shelters can be a very eye opening experience. Had my beloved Pet Assisted Therapy cat Muku (now in kitty heaven) not escaped my house 10 years ago, I may never have had to check area shelters for him. For me personally it was extremely difficult to go in and see so many animals there. First I got upset, and then I got mad about it, and made the choice to help make a difference. The ASPCA (link: http://www.aspca.org/about-us/faq/pet-statistics.aspx) reports that between 5 and 7 million companion animals enter into shelters each year in the United States. Less than half are lucky enough to make it back out.

One of my personal goals this year is to get more involved with a shelter. I have selected the small one in my hometown of Newberg, Oregon. It's nothing snazzy, and frankly they could use your help. They are currently working hard to find funding and raise enough money to build an adequate building for the needs of the city and the pets. If you are so inclined to send a little help their way, I would love to send you a Clair tote bag. Donate here http://www.newberganimalshelterfriends.org/

Hope you enjoy the collection. It was one of the most fun photoshoots I have ever done. Huge thank you to my lovely model Cheryl and all the pets, Plume for the jewels, and of course the lady who make all the pretty things you see possible Sarah Giffrow.
