Happy New Years!

This year has been a whirlwind. Some good, quite a bit bad, and a lot in between. I am glad to be kicking 2009 to the curb, and welcoming in a fresh decade and New Year. 2010, I hope you are awesome!

That being said, I'd like to thank the below people/things for being part of my life. I am truly grateful to the network of amazing people around me.

Carolyn Hart. My fabulous studio mate in Nashionland. Constant form of comic relief and LBD designer.

Janeane Marie. Through a series of odd events, which turned to good ones, I met Janeane this year. We both work insane hours, and I'm very glad to have her down the hall. Meow.

Sarah Giffrow

Jennifer Simms. Cracks me up like no one else, and gets more excited at a thrift store than I thought humanly possible. Also, an amazing designer and patternmaker.

Seyta Selter. Most definately someone I do not see enough of, and am constantly amazed at her ability to dress the gents so dapper.

Tracy Anderson. Without her help I would be in chronic pain. Acupuncture and Shiatsu massage. Amazing.

Vintage Portland. My new favorite blog. Makes me love the city more, and I adore looking at the old photos of now ghost buildings.

On this last week of the year I am working hard at sampling my 2010 collections. I'm excited to get them shot, and in stores.

2010 will be awesome.

Other stuff......

I like making clothes just fine, but sometimes I get to do fun "other" stuff. Recently my studio mate Carolyn and I made large curtains to help divide up our landlords giant home studio. I think they look pretty cool, and personally enjoy making really ginormous things. Here they are:

This moves me.

My friend Chelsea left the November issue of Glamour in my studio a few weeks ago. I am terrible about reading magazines, and I will let them pile up for months. I remembered seeing this photo online, and when it was orginally published in Glamour.
So, this evening while I was reading the November issue of the magazine, there was this follow up to the original photo in the letter from the editor.
The Woman on Page 194

This moves me. To see this in a magazine. This is a lady how she is. No photoshop. More of us look like this than not.

As a follow up the magazine ran this photo:

Along with this story - These bodies are beautiful.

I really hope that this publications, as well as others, will use a wider variety of models. Putting clothing on a size 0-4 model is easy. Fitting the rest of the world, and making it look good, is the hard part. It's one of my challenges, and it's also something I take pride in doing. I'd love to outfit those 7.

FUSE : Chinese Visit

This spring the lovely Jillian asked me to lend her some clothing for a trip she was taking to China. They were in some shows over there, and then this last month the Chinese came here. Below are photos of their visit to my studio. Thanks to OSI Photography.

Portland Fashion Shows

I don't usually partake in the fashion shows going on in October in this city. This year I went to a few, and have another to go to on Sunday evening (Content '09), should be neat.

Last Friday I went to the best fashion show I have ever seen. It was called The Procession. Pinkham Millinery created the hats, and local designers the garments. The location was top secret. When I pulled up, I realized that the show was in a cemetery! The weather could not have been more perfect. Here is a photo from local photographer Pete Springer:

Also a write up with some more photos.

Not sure how anyone is going to top this, but it sure beats the hell out of overpriced, late starting events.

moving, moving, moving!

I have been a bit missing in action lately, and I hopefully will get a bit better at blogging soon. I am in my 3rd studio space for the year (last and BEST), and I also had to move apartments (never fun). I'm slowing getting settled and discovering all sorts of treasures I had forgotten about.

Here are some photos from studio #2, called "Pretty Dress Land". Carolyn and I were there for a short stint, just 2 months. The only reason we moved, is because the giant fabulous studio across the hall came available, and our awesome landlords offered to help us migrate. We moved in under 2 hours! Studio #3 is "Nashionland". We are still putting the finishing touches on it, and photos to come soon of that. (We have to hang the chandelier and get the velvet curtains up before photos!). So here is #2, and an empty #3.

Bargain Hunting 101 - This Sunday 8/16 12-5

It's that time again. Bargain Hunting 101 is less than a week away. I heard it's up to 60 vendors (list here) , instead of 50. So come shop! They have a bar too. You can drink AND shop.

Crystal Ballroom
1332 W. Burnside
Portland, OR 97209
12-5pm

Best of all it's FREE to get in.

I will have lower prices then before, which is under well under wholesale. So if you had your eye on an item from a past season, I may have it for you at a steal of a deal.

Also I will be accepting credit cards as well as cash, and have a TON of dresses.

See you there!

xoxo

More to Love on Fox - I got some clothes on TV!

If you have a TV, and have been watching More To Love on Fox, you may have seen some of my clothes last night. My friend/model/artist/amazing stylist Boni is one of the contestants. In fact she is the only one who isn't crying a river of mascara and foundation.

Last night she had on my Slouchy No Muffin Top Skirt from my Fall 2009 collection.
(runway shot, photoshoot to come soon)

On Boni

And also the houndstooth NMT from Winter 2008. As seen on the model to the far right. Boni is the model in the center.

I haven't found a still, nor have I figured out how to make one. I'll post one up if I do.

Anyway, kind of neat, and nerdy moment at the same time. I get more excited seeing my clothes on people, then the runway.

amazing idea

Really amazing:
http://www.theuniformproject.com/

One of the reasons that I work so hard, is to change the consciousness of "fashion" or apparel. I feel that in today's society clothing is viewed as disposable. Changing this way of thought is a goal I have. When I make clothing I think of all of the different ways it could be styled, and hope it stays in the wearers closet until it is threadbare.

Anyway, what this gal is doing is pretty cool, and for a good cause. I think my favorite so far is her cowboy outfit. Super cute!
