This Thursday: Fashion Speaks: Design Week Portland

It's this Thursday. I hope to see you there.

And I promise not to say "like" and "dude" too much.

Fashion Speaks

Carolyn Hart and Lizz Basinger will be on the panel with me, hosted by Cassie Ridgeway of Mag Big.

We'll be talking about what it's like to make clothing in Portland. It's not as glamorous as it may sound. It involves a lot being covered in thread, talking to yourself, finding pins in strange places, thinking nested patterns are pretty, and giggling.

My life is rad.

Moving Studios

So exciting news! Carolyn and I have upgraded our studio space and added another pal, Rita from Hubris Apparel.

Sunday before last was painting day in the new space. We had a black wall to cover and then some floor painting to do. (previous was a white floor, YUCK).
Our landlord is SUPER awesome and made us a pretty picture of how the layout could look.

My Dad, Jann and Rita got all the pallet racking in on Wednesday and we had to move the racking around since there was a pesky pipe in the way above the proposed wall.

Here's me and Carolyn doing our Glamor Shots poses in front of our cut table. Which now looks TINY!

The pallet racking kind of looks like our new jungle gym.

Then the boys helped move the machines and re-hang our shelves.
(sorry for the blur, I was trying to be covert as they do not like their photos taken.)

More photos to come. It's still kind of a mess, but it will be super pretty soon!

Bargain Hunting - Summer Session Recap

Thanks to all the folks that came out on Sunday. It was so nice to see so many faces. I was so excited to see so many of my things at the sale, that weren't for sale, but on people!
I may have mentioned this before, but the thing that keeps me going and doing what I love is seeing my clothing on people. It's my super geek moment, and I had several (as you can see below).

I also just have to say that Carolyn and I are awesome. This photo is of our feet, still in our heels, at the end of the sale. Pretty footwear forever!

Doom Town Productions presents Sweet F.A. 2010

This is the 6th year I have participated in this show. I have to say it's my favorite to do because it's fun to go to and watch. No boring sitting in seats, and the majority of my favorite Portland designers are showing in it. Hope to see you there!

Happy New Years!

This year has been a whirlwind. Some good, quite a bit bad, and a lot in between. I am glad to be kicking 2009 to the curb, and welcoming in a fresh decade and New Year. 2010, I hope you are awesome!

That being said, I'd like to thank the below people/things for being part of my life. I am truly grateful to the network of amazing people around me.

Carolyn Hart. My fabulous studio mate in Nashionland. Constant form of comic relief and LBD designer.

Janeane Marie. Through a series of odd events, which turned to good ones, I met Janeane this year. We both work insane hours, and I'm very glad to have her down the hall. Meow.

Jennifer Simms. Cracks me up like no one else, and gets more excited at a thrift store than I thought humanly possible. Also, an amazing designer and patternmaker.

Seyta Selter. Most definately someone I do not see enough of, and am constantly amazed at her ability to dress the gents so dapper.

Tracy Anderson. Without her help I would be in chronic pain. Acupuncture and Shiatsu massage. Amazing.

Vintage Portland. My new favorite blog. Makes me love the city more, and I adore looking at the old photos of now ghost buildings.

On this last week of the year I am working hard at sampling my 2010 collections. I'm excited to get them shot, and in stores.

Fall Production

Fall production has been going nicely. I have quite a bit of material cut out, and am finishing up my designs and will be cutting the remainder in the upcoming weeks. Here is a sneak peak of one of my sweaters being laid up and getting ready to cut out. (I LOVE the 7 yard long cutting table at my work).

I am very excited to announce that I am joining work spaces with 2 of my best friends Sarah Wallace of Lucia Apparel, and Carolyn Hart of Carolyn Hart Designs. We move into our space on July 1. VERY exciting. We all feel like real live professionals. It will be so nice to be able to ride my bike a short distance and be able to access a studio workspace 24/7. The only thing I am not looking forward to is moving my Juki serger down and then up stairs, it weighs a ton. Good thing I have some strong friends. We have jokingly named it the "S.A.C." studio, after a joke we had in school, and our initials, duh.

I am also going to be doing a photo shoot for a model with Pete Springer. Pretty exciting, the gal is super cute, and they are going to use my fall clothing for the shoot. I am really excited about that, since Pete is a great photographer, and I haven't done a "organized" fashion shoot with hair and make up in ages.

On a totally non-apparel related note, I got a word into Urban Dictionary It is "bodangle". Click the link, and give it a thumbs up if you like it. I didn't make the word up, but use it quite frequently.
